CEO

Chief Executive Officer

As a result of the success and growth of the orchestra’s program, MCO is establishing a full-time management structure which includes the position of Chief Executive Officer.

The current General Manager has been in the role for six years during which time the orchestra's budget has grown from under $70,000 to over $1 million, the orchestra has been reconstituted, a regional tour has been established and the major performance venue has transferred from BMW Edge to Melbourne Recital Centre. The orchestra has staged the ABC Classic 100 Concerto concert (2007) and the outstanding Marriner Festival (2009). Subscriptions in 2009 are up 60% on the prior years.

The General Manager will be stepping into the new part-time role of Development Manager in 2010 and we are seeking an appropriately qualified and experienced person to replace her and lead the orchestra through the next stage of its development.

Summary Details

The CEO is responsible for managing the human and financial resources of MCO in order to achieve the orchestra's mission. To that end, the CEO is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the organisation for advising on and implementing the policies set by the Board. The CEO serves as the chief operating officer of MCO and reports to the Board through the Chairman.

The CEO works in collaboration with the Artistic Director, William Hennessy, who reports directly to the Board and has primary responsibility for the implementation of the artistic plan and the artistic development of the orchestra.

All staff report directly to the CEO. The Artistic Operations Manager also has a dotted line responsibility to the Artistic Director, working directly with him to implement the requirements for the orchestra and artistic plan.

In addition, you are requested to demonstrate that you have appropriate experience at a senior level in managing a dynamic organisation, preferably in an arts environment.

This is not designed to deter talented people from other fields but the role requires someone with relevant experience.
