Melbourne Chamber Orchestra serves the community in ways which include:

- Establishing a new and unique model in Australia for the development of a chamber orchestra which focuses on musical excellence, artistic development and shared musical leadership.

- Fostering the development of our brightest and best professional performers through the establishment of a core group of highly talented professional string players.

- Promoting opportunities for Australian composers to develop their talents within our community and to reside in our midst while pursuing their careers.

- Providing concerts on a value-for-money basis, being efficient in the use of our limited resources and transparent in our accounting for the use of public and private donations.

- Minimising the barriers between artists and audience - aiming for a concert experience where the audience is moved by the music in an intimate and personally-involving setting.
