Helen Ireland (viola)






Helen Ireland is a Core Player with Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the viola player in Melbourne’s renowned Flinders Quartet and teaches viola and chamber music at Melbourne University.

A graduate of the Canberra School of Music, Helen was awarded the Erica Haas prize for chamber music. She participated in several Australian Youth Orchestra tours, becoming principal viola of the Camerata in 1998.

In 1996, Helen was finalist in the viola competition at the International Winter School for Strings.

Helen has worked with many leading Australian Orchestras, including the Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony orchestras and Orchestra Victoria where she is regularly guest associate principal.

After two years as a scholarship student at the Australian National Academy of Music, she is in demand as both player and teacher. Until the end of 2008 she is Assistant Coordinator of strings at Melbourne University.

Helen recently qualified as a Feldenkrais practitioner and looks forward to helping other musicians with this work.
