In 2008 Katherine became a Core Player with Melbourne Chamber Orchestra with whom she also appeared as soloist. She has also performed as soloist with the Darwin Symphony, Melbourne University Orchestra, Melbourne Sinfonietta and Maroondah Symphony.
Katherine Lukey has been a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra since 2004 with whom she has toured Europe, Asia, North/South America and Australia. She also plays with the Melbourne Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.
Katherine has been an Australian National Academy of Music musician since 2006 studying with Alice Waten. She began violin studies aged four under the Suzuki method and later graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree and a Diploma of Modern Languages in German. During these studies Katherine was the recipient of the Peg Oldfield Prize for String Players, the William Bardsley Award for violinists and was a finalist in the 2005 Dorcas McClean Travelling Scholarship for violinists.
Between 2002 and 2006, Katherine studied as both an undergraduate exchange and postgraduate student at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz, Austria with Professor Silvia Marcovici and Guest Professor Tibor Varga. She received numerous awards from organisations including the Australia Council, the Ian Potter Foundation, the EV Llewellyn Memorial Fund for String Players and the University of Melbourne to facilitate her studies in Austria.
Katherine performs as a member of the Acacia Piano Trio who were winners of the Musica Viva Prize for Chamber Music at the 2007 McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge. She has twice been awarded the Dr Bill Williams Memorial Prize at the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition. Katherine Lukey was overall winner of the 2004 Kendall National Violin Competition (Australia) and also received the Audience Choice Prize. In 2003 she was winner of the Musical Society of Victoria Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Award for Strings and finalist in the 3MBS FM Young Performer of The Year Award. Katherine has been broadcast live on ABC Classic FM and 3MBS FM Australia.
